Father John Farren, O.P.
Fr. John Farren was ordained in 1964 and, following graduate studies, taught and earned the Doctorate in Theology from the Dominican House of Studies in Washington. From 1969-74 he served in Chimbote, Peru, and from 1974-80 as Assistant for Apostolic Life to the Master General of the Dominican Order in Rome, a position which entailed visits to more than 50 countries. During 1980-81, he was invited as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at Yale University’s School of Divinity.
Then he served as Director of Education in the national office of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, followed by three years in fundraising for the Dominican Province of St. Joseph, both located here in New York. From 1986-1992, he served as Prior of the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, and then returned to Rome for six years as an official at the Vatican in the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
From 1999-2003, he was Director of the Catholic Information Service, the evangelizing office of the Knights of Columbus at their headquarters in New Haven CT. From 2003-07, he was on loan to the Archdiocese of Boston where he served as Rector of St. John Seminary in Boston. 2007 brought him back to New York as Director of the Dominican Foundation until 2010, and since then he has been serving at St. Catherine of Siena.
