Bible Study

The life of the Catholic Church is fundamentally rooted in the proclamation of sacred Scripture. We believe that it is in the Bible that we recognize who Jesus Christ truly is. The Church of Saint Catherine of Siena provides many opportunities to pursue a serious study of the Bible that is faithful to the Catholic understanding of the revealed Word of God.

As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, “In Sacred Scripture, the Church constantly finds her nourishment and her strength, for she welcomes it not as a human word, ‘but as what it really is, the word of God.’ ‘In the sacred books, the Father who is in heaven comes lovingly to meet his children, and talks with them’” (104).

The Great Adventure Bible Study

The Church of Saint Catherine of Siena uses The Great Adventure Bible Study series published by Ascension Press. This series takes the rich and complex ideas contained in the Bible and makes them simple and easy to comprehend (and fun!).

The various Bible studies offered by the Parish provides life-transforming opportunities to encounter the revealed Word of God that:

  • presents a deeper understanding of the sacred Scriptures through a variety of adult learning experiences so that there is a convergence of content and human need; as Saint Peter said “Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls on you to account for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15);
  • reading the Bible from the heart of the Church, in light of the Church’s Liturgy and living Tradition it is hoped that an encounter with Jesus Christ happens and thrives; we are nourished and sustained by the ancient practice of Lectio Divina, the prayerful reading of sacred Scripture;
  • the participants are given the tools to apply Scripture to their daily lives; each person is encouraged to take his or her formation in the Faith seriously through a thorough knowledge of the Bible.
