Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is the result of the work of two Catholic laywomen in Rome: Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi under the inspiration of Dr. Maria Montessori. The religious education materials they prepared are based on the Bible, the Catholic Liturgy and sacraments, Tradition, and Church teachings. The place where religious instruction and formation is held is called an atrium, a sacred space designated for catechetical sessions designed to fully engage the religious education of children, to develop their religious potential and to facilitate their participation in the life of the Church.

As Sofia Cavalletti said, “If we want to help the child draw nearer to God, we should with patience and courage seek to go always closer to the vital nucleus of things. This requires study and prayer. The child will be our teacher if we know how to observe.”

The children of Saint Catherine’s meet in the Saint Joseph’s Hall (at the Parish offices) according   ages and maturity on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Please consult with the Pastor, Father Jordan Kelly or the Coordinator of Faith Formation, Mary Kay Morrissey. For more information on CGS, see: www.cgsusa.org.
