Sacrament of Baptism

“The Church welcomes you with great joy!”

You will hear these words attending the Rite of Baptism for Children at St. Catherine’s, and indeed it is with great joy that St. Catherine’s welcomes those who seek this sacrament.

In Holy Baptism, the child is freed from sin and reborn as a son or daughter of God through water in the Word.  In the grace of this sacrament, the child is made a member of Christ, is incorporated into the Church and made a sharer in Her mission.  When a child is Baptized, he or she is claimed for Jesus Christ!

Our pastoral staff helps parents (and other family members) to prepare for the Baptism of their child, and pledges to walk beside you in nurturing their faith. Regardless of your relationship with God in the near or distant past, the birth of your child moves the heart of God to give him or her the opportunity to personally know Jesus Christ and the faith He has given the Church.   Holy Baptism is the basis of a full, active and conscious Christian life.

Baptismal Preparation Sessions are held on the third Thursday of every month at 7 PM. Please contact the Parish Office at 212-988-8300 to register and schedule your Baptism.
