Lectors

Since the time of the Apostles, Christians have gathered together to hear the word of God. Members of the Christian community have been entrusted with the service of reading the sacred Scriptures at Mass. The lector serves a unique role in the Liturgy by proclaiming the first and second readings at Mass.

The two requirements for lectors listed in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal are: “They should be truly suited to perform this function and should receive careful preparation, so that the faithful by listening to the readings from the sacred texts may develop in their hearts a warm and living love for Sacred Scripture” (GIRM, 101).

Father Jordan Kelly and Joe Sullivan provide training to become familiar with this liturgical service.
